Not a radical idea in horticulture of course, and I think its been used in fisheries management , but this is the first time I remember seeing the concept applied to animal agriculture / poultry husbandry. 

Years before Guns, Germs and Steel or Collapse, Jared Diamond wrote this. It is not an opinion I share, but it is thought provoking.

Small-scale farmers increasingly at risk from ‘global land grabbing’

Land tenure models are too rarely considered when assessing agricultural potential. They are of interest after the fact to historians, but just not “sexy” enough for news stories. Good work, Guardian.
